Women and Power, a series of presentations delivered live on a variety of topics of interest to women, and the people in their lives. Women and Power is based on the belief that women are strong, competent and courageous; that we, as women, are not in training but are full practitioners at life; and that leadership into the 21st Century must come from women. Each of the topics in the series is designed to bring women closer to an awareness of who we are and - more importantly - who we might become! Each topic explores some of the challenges that women face in their own growth and expansion, and in the growth and expansion in their relationships with people around them.

The "Women and Power" series covers six prominent topics: speaking up (saying what we really think); money; women and men; women and their mothers; expressing emotions; and finally, in the sixth program, bringing all of these together and exploring how women frequently use the first five to (unwittingly) keep ourselves and each other powerless.

The format is the same for all six programs. Each event is held in a public forum, for a duration of two hours, and professionally recorded live with additional microphones positioned in the audience. The program opens with a presentation that runs from 30 to 45 minutes. The floor mics are then opened up for input from the audience, to the degree to which its members wish to participate. People have a lot to say! During this live, open forum, people ask questions, make comments and tell their stories. Each program has been reviewed and edited to ensure the best segments are available to you.

Topic 1 ~ Speaking Up and Speaking Out!

The first in this series Speaking Up and Speaking Out! is a program that is designed to challenge the way you think - about yourself and about the way you interact with others. It is intended to press up against your notions of power and the way you express and experience your personal power. And finally, it will leave you pondering your own magnificence and capacity to create - making it possible to leave a victim perspective behind! Because of the approach, this program is as valuable to men as it is to women.

Topic 2 ~ Magical, Mystical Money!

What is money? How come some people have it, and others don't - no matter how hard they work at getting it! What does money mean to you? If you equate money with pleasure, just how much are you entitled to? And just exactly how much will it cost you to have some?

Explore money -- Not the debits and credits of money, but the beliefs, values and attitudes that either make it - or don't. Not the bank balance side of money, but the world views of abundance or scarcity that are reflected in that bank balance. Money, like anything else, is a choice. How much will you choose for yourself? And what's stopping you from doing it NOW!

Topic 3 ~ White Knights and Reluctant Heroes!

Men! We can't live with them and we can't live without them! This program explores our relationships with men: fathers, brothers, lovers, sons and friends. How much of the men in our lives is who they really are, and how much is what we make them up to be?

For a generation now, we have sought after the 'sensitive man', only to discover that they scare us to death when we find them! How did that happen? How is it that men have become the enemy? Where did we learn that we are the victims and they are the perpetrators? And where does it all stop?

What are the implications of our relationships with men on parenting? On our careers? And on our ability to live our lives with grace, dignity, compassion and humor? Join us as we explore these and other questions in this live, open forum!

Topic 4 ~ To Be or Not To Be… My Mother!

She is the very source of life itself. Without her, none of us would be here. She is the one who shared her body with us, carried us inside her for nine months, nurtured us from the very tissue of her being ... and she is also the one who can drive us nuts faster than anyone else on earth!

One of the most powerful, profound and permanent relationships we have is with Mom. She is the one who becomes the first living example of what to be ... or not to be. Particularly for women, Mom is the living example of who, how and why to be. And then there is all they gray area in between!

How much of me is Mom? How much of Mom am I willing to let go of? And how much of Mom do I hang on to and then hold her responsible for the holding on? An exploration of the relationship and its far-reaching influences on our choices, our chances and our lives.

Topic 5 ~ Emotions: Messengers From Inner Space!

Who would think that from such chaos could come a sense of peace and contentment? Who could possibly believe that the pathway to a core of internal stability would be through the churning waters of emotions? Who will dare to challenge their own thinking so as to move out of that rut that's been holding you locked in its grip for so long?

Emotions - small words like anger, fear, joy, guilt... with such powerful implications! The emotion is only the tip of the iceberg compared to all the rules we have about having the emotions themselves. Small wonder we would prefer not to think about it!

Join us for an exploration of emotions. What are emotions? Where do they come from and where do they go? How do they work inside your body? What possible purpose do they serve? How can you work with them instead of against them? How do they serve you - and how do they trip you up? What are you willing to do about them? And, more importantly, who are you capable of becoming when you honor them?

Topic 6 ~ The Cost of Collusion!

Collusion is defined as acting together secretly; conniving. It also comes from the Latin meaning to play or to deceive together, as in a game.

We, as women, have been colluding for generations in ways that have led to our own and each other's powerlessness in the living of our lives. We say yes when we want to say no; we "make nice" with things that are causing us harm; we are willing to surrender ourselves rather than risk hurting someone else's feelings. We encourage each other to do this under the guise of being 'reasonable' or 'understanding'. And then we turn 40, look in the mirror and don't like who we have become.

In this program, the last in a series that delves into how women express power, we explore what we do; why we do and how we do - over and over again! - the things in our lives that don't work - and then blame everything around us for our own state of powerlessness. This is an opportunity to open your mind and your thoughts to consider the depth of your own power and ask: where did it all go? And how do I take it back!
